Reboot
The Lifebridge 2012 Reboot Project
In 2012, LifeBridge is rethinking how we define church. For many of you this may seem strange. Most of the time, churches will decide what they want to project and offer that to you in the hopes you come and enjoy it. If you do not enjoy it, then either your mind needs to be changed or you need to find a different place to go on Sunday’s. There are even consultants for churches who will do studies and instruct you on how to market, establish parking, seating, and even arrange furniture.
We feel the best way to be what we need to be is to invite you to help us redefine church. If you want to know what matters to us, feel free to visit the Idea tab of our site.
What we hope for:
We hope for a place where God, love, art, philosophy, theology, honesty, acceptance, discussion, healing, and life collide while we find ways to help others in need. The church needs to exist to serve its non members.
How does someone take part?
We know that this is new to a lot of people. Our Sunday gatherings will only take place twice a month in 2012 so we have time to do it together and do it right. For now, we have 14 blocks. We call them blocks because like a child’s set of blocks, they can be put in any order. A block can be removed, added, and be made into anything limited only by one’s imagination. We are looking for people to participate by grabbing a block at our planning meetings and making it part of the whole of who we all are. A block can use something already written, like a favorite poem, or it can be something you create. Here are the current blocks we want to play with and make something beautiful together.
- 1.Invocation
2. Welcome/News/Announcement
3. Music
4. A poem
5. A parable
6. Responsive Prayer
9. Lectio Divina
10. Ten minute sermonette
11. Discussion
12. Reminders of important things going on
13. Offering and communion (half of every offering goes to someone or something in need).
14. Benediction
Is the reboot and invitation only for Sundays?
No, but Sunday gatherings is a good place for us to start this reboot and allow people to get comfortable with the idea of ownership, control, and creativity together. Ultimately, we hope for people to innovate and create other things such as outreaches under the LifeBridge banner that help single moms, homeless people, or offer Bible studies or deep conversations about life in pubs, homes, and coffeehouses.
Will anything happen on the Sundays Lifebridge Gatherings are not going on?
Yes. One Sunday a month, Pastor Pat and some of the people from LifeBridge will visit other churches in the community and be polite guests, learning from other traditions and making friends. Other Sundays we will encourage people to spend time in a day of delight. Host a bbq, go bowling with friends, watch the game…and call it church. Some Sundays we will have coordinated events such as volunteering to serve others or having a meal together.
Anything Else happening in 2012?
There is another things we will be doing once a month. Once a month we are inviting a guest to meet us at a local restaurant to talk about something they are passionate about. Then there will be some q and a and we will go home. The reason for this is there are fascinating people in the world doing wonderful things for others. It is good to meet them and listen to them and be inspired by them. We are calling these events the Last Supper. We will have more information about these in the website soon.
What about the other ministries like GAFA or YASO?
There will be changes in those as well. We would like the starting point to be Sunday, however, if you have read about YASO or GAFA and want to take part, please contact us.
